No more typing serials
Vimla’s support team registered every returned SIM card by hand. I finished an internal tool that lets them do it with a barcode scanner.

The challenge
Mailings that came back, usually because of address problems, were registered manually by typing in each card’s serial number, subscription and destination. It was slow and left room for human error.
What I did
A half-built tool
I took over an internal tool my team lead had started, about half done, and finished it.
Testing with support
I worked in close contact with the support team and tested with them continuously, to make sure the tool solved the right problem.
Filling the form with a scanner
The tool generates a scannable serial number, so staff fill in the form with a barcode scanner and no longer type it by hand.
The outcome
Staff scan the serial number instead of typing it, so there is less manual work and less room for typos. The support team were glad to have it.
