Web and app, finally in sync
Vimla is a digital mobile operator owned by Telenor, with around 350 thousand users on its website and app. On my own initiative, I built the design system both are now built on.
- 350k
- users on the website and app it serves
- 2 libraries
- web and app, under one design system, in Figma and code

The challenge
There was no design system, so every new feature was designed and built from scratch. Delivery was slow, screens were inconsistent, and web and app drifted apart visually because their components were not interchangeable.
What I did
Figma and code
I built a design system for both web and app. Web and app had different needs, so it has a responsive component library for each, with design tokens, built in both Figma and code.
Dark mode and templates
Using local variables in Figma, I added a dark mode to what had been a light-only design. I also made page templates, so designers and product owners could start a new page from ready-made layouts instead of blank pages.
Ongoing work
The design system was never a separate project. I kept developing it as continuous work alongside my other deliveries.
Strict TypeScript
When the team lead wanted the codebase in strict TypeScript, I took that on as well and drove the migration over a quiet summer.
The outcome
New screens on both web and app are now built on the design system.
